ARC & Gifted Book Disclosure Policy - Literary Cobblestones

At Literary Cobblestones, I value honesty, transparency, and trust. That's why I think it's important to explain how I handle advance reader copies (ARCs), gifted books, and other complimentary review materials.

What is an ARC or Gifted Copy?

An ARC is an Advance Reader Copy — a book provided before its official publication, often through platforms like NetGalley, directly from publishers, authors, or PR companies. A gifted copy can also mean a finished edition sent free of charge for the purposes of review or promotion.

I receive these copies at no cost to me, but they are provided with the understanding that I will read and share my honest thoughts.

My Commitment to Honest Reviews

  • Receiving a book for free does not influence my opinion, rating, or the content of my review.

  • I am never paid to give a positive review, and I do not accept compensation in exchange for a specific opinion.

  • All reviews reflect my own genuine thoughts, whether positive, neutral, or critical.

How I Disclose ARCs in Reviews

For every review where I have received a gifted copy, I clearly state with a paragraph disclosure at the top of the page as well as line or two highlighting this fact at the beginning or end of the review. Examples:

  • I received a free ARC from NetGalley and [Publisher Name] in exchange for an honest review.

OR

  • Thanks to [Publisher Name] for providing a complimentary copy for review. All opinions are my own.

For moodboards and reading collages focusing on a gifted novel, a variation of one of these lines will appear at the top of the page.

Social Media Disclosure

When discussing ARCs or gifted books on Instagram, TikTok, or other social media platforms, I use clear, upfront disclosures such as:

  • AD – PR Product or a variation like  AD – Gifted Book or AD – Gifted Copy

  • Gifted copy from NetGalley / [Publisher]

These appear in the first line of captions and are visible on every story or video segment in compliance with FTC, UK CMA/ASA, and EU guidelines.
